These pictures show students performing "The Wave" as part of an experiment to collect data and review linear models. This activity also provided a concrete example on which to base a discussion of functions, data analysis, and use of the TI-83 calculator. We had a busy first day!
000225 The students in these pictures are doing "The Spaghetti Lab," in which they explore direct and inverse variation by examining the relationships among the strength of a spaghetti "bridge," its length, and its thickness (i.e., the number of strands of spaghetti it contains).

(I'm pleased to report that photography student Megan Gonzales, who shot many of the pictures below, has taken over as photographer for activities in this class.)
